Five Things Every High School Student Should Know…

  1. Khan Academy: A free online study platform to create a study plan based on your weak areas. Khan Academy‘s instructional videos on topics like math, biology, and grammar provide teachers with tools and help students develop their skills. The academy has 64 million registered users in 190 countries, and it benefited some 140,000 teachers worldwide last year alone. When students use Khan Academy for at least 30 minutes a week they are two times more likely than their non-Khan Academy-using peers to meet grade-level standards in math. TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC): The Educational Opportunity Center is a FREE program Palm Beach State College offers that is 100% funded by the U.S. Department of Education to provide assistance to adults 19 and older and high school juniors and seniors who desire a post-secondary education. All services are FREE and include:
    • Assistance Applying for Financial Aid
    • Career Counseling
    • GED Referrals and Resources
    • Financial Literacy
    • Assistance with Admissions
    • Resume/Soft Skills

  3. High School Job Finder: If you’re in high school, chances are, it’s really hard to be able to find a part-time job. Only a few places hire people under the age of 18, or even if you are 18, it’s hard being considered for a job since you’re still so young an inexperienced. Part-time jobs help teach students responsibility and help build resumes. Students also learn time management and people skills.
